HABITAT BUFFERS FOR
UPLAND BIRDS

The purpose of this practice is to provide food and cover for quail and other upland birds in predominately cropland areas.  This practice will be applied around field outer edges of eligible fields. If all sides of the crop field are not enrolled in CCRP then the sides where water enters and exits the field must be enrolled. After buffer installation, the remaining cropland field must be greater in size than the CP-33 buffer.  Generally, this practice shall not be located adjacent to existing conservation practices including CRP on the same land ownership. Minimum average width will be 30 feet and maximum average width will not exceed 120 feet. Whole fields and fields less than 5 acres in size shall not be enrolled. Maximum contract length is 10 years. Prescribed burning  and/or light disking are required mid-contract management practices and must be applied at least twice during the contract.
