 STATE ACRES FOR WILDLIFE ENHANCEMENT

The purpose of this practice is to establish nativegrass/forb/legumes for permanent upland bird nesting and brood-rearing habitat on eligible cropland.  This practice will be applied in strips or patches primarily to improve, enhance or create upland bird edge habitat. Maximum acreage enrollment is 5 acres for fields less than 25 acres or 20% of fields greater than 25 acres with a maximum of 80 acres per field.  Fields equal to or less than 5 acres may enrolled in their entirety.  Enrolled acres must average between 30 and 200 feet. Strips or patches of CP-38 must be separated by 30 feet of crop. Contract length is 10 to 15 years. Mid-contract management practices are required at least once in each 5 year segment of the contract. Mid-contract management may include prescribed burning, light disking, inter-seeding, and managed haying and grazing. Grazing is allowed once in each 5 year segment of the contract. Haying is allowed once every ten years on 50% of the contract area. Food plots are allowed but are limited to 5 acres or 10% of the acreage enrolled in CP-38.

IMPROVE FARMING EFFICIENCY WITH CP-38!!!

In this day and age of large farm equipment and high fuel costs the farming operation must be as efficient as possible. Small difficult to farm    areas, small fields ravaged by deer, nutrient & moisture sapped areas and irregular field boundaries all detract from farming efficiency, The CP-38  practice can be used to eliminate these inefficient areas and also provide a  stable annual, guaranteed income at very little cost.  Additional benefits include reduced soil erosion, improved water quality and high quality quail habitat.
